I became interested in genealogy in 1998 when I decided I wanted to know more about my father’s family. A new website had just come online, Ancestry.com. With that and the discovery of the Family History Center just down the road….well….the bug had bitten me.
It’s amazing how you can get someone interested in family history, just by talking about what you’re doing. My father-in-law asked if I would research his family and as the saying goes…the Mighty Oak was born!
I’ve been doing genealogy for nearly 18 years and it never loses its allure. There’s always a new set of records that are released, amazing ways of connecting with other researchers and lending a hand to someone who’s hit that infamous brick wall.
Three years ago I was offered the volunteer position of genealogist for the John More Association (JMA). I’m tied to the JMA on my maternal side. It’s part of what lead me to joining Find A Grave. With the wonders of the internet and Jim Tipton’s creation of FAG, the JMA now has the ability to gather all our fallen cousins into their own virtual cemetery and making our family history more accessible to the next generation.
