I have been tracing my family history as far back as I can on both sides of the family for about 10-15 years (give or take a few years, as I really do not remember when I started this project, LOL) . I took over the project from my mother. Surnames that I am working on include: Demarest (with all of the various spellings)(Demaree/Demorest/DeMorest,etc.)(total of about 16 different spellings), Giesler, Hardie, Clum, Owens, VanNoy (various spellings), Riemenschneider and Alcorn for starters. I do know that I have German, Dutch, Welsh, and English ancestry, so this project can get a little complicated at times.
I have come across about 63 either National or Veterans Administration operated cemeteries from all across the country as well as the International American Cemetery in the Philippines that my Demorest (all variations) family is buried within, including Arlington National in Virginia, which this total comes in at about 225 individuals. As you can tell by these numbers, I come from a very PROUD MILITARY FAMILY with service at least as far back as The American Revolution.
In October 1991, at the age of 14, I earned the Boy Scouts of America's highest award, that of Eagle Scout. I am also a Lifetime Member to the National Eagle Scoout Association putting me in such company as Steven Spielberg, Neil Armstrong, James A. Lovell, and the only U.S. President to achieve Eagle, Gerald Ford.
A hobby I have is to photograph the military markers in my local area, and then to place the individual on the website https://www.togetherweserved.com to honor their service to the United States Armed Forces. If you have a request for a military marker photo, you may email me direct and I will be glad to look in my files to try and locate it for you. If I do not have it, I will try and get out to the cemetery in question and locate it. In your request, please indicate the following in known: Branch of Service, final rank or rate and conflict timeframe to aid in the search.
