We live in Deerfield; Portage Co, Oh. We are retired and winter out of the area. Ron and I have wandered old cemeteries for years. Other Volunteers are finding ours out of our area THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS! Local Cemetery info below pls scroll down to learn of each...
2014 ATWATER CEMETERY OHIO.........2014 I used 1931 Western Reserve Transcripts with 1993 Portage Co Historial Soc transcripts and SEXTON records transcribed plus the cemetery records thru 2014. If you think someone is buried there and there is not a memorial, the cemetery probably can't find it either. If you are a relative, call cemetery and ask to CHECK THE OWNERSHIP records. I entered all the tombstones thru 2014 and all the transcriptions which included sexton records w/o tombstones thru 1993 WITHOUT ACCESS TO OWNERSHIP RECORDS.
2015 EDINBURG CEMETERY...I am used only the 1993 transcriptions from PCGenealogy Society.PCGS transcriptions are incorrect, but I waited for corrections 2 yrs;,I am proceeding. Rows did not go in order with so many broken stones missing. There are many broken stones left laying flat and over grown, most need dug up to photograph the remaining old section finished Pls Put in a photo request for old ones.
ROOTSTOWN HOMELAND cemetery 2015, THANK YOU SO MUCH TO LEROY KYLE who teamed up with me and photographed the whole cemetery. Thanks to Ralph Green who helped put up memorials and checked errors with us adding military info.
SANDHILL HILLSIDE..started some work on this one 2015. Finished old section Sandhill ...Hillside is connected and many people have put memorials in wrong cem, and so there are dups. I think Hillside is done, There are many broken stones in the old section Hillside, dups fag would not merge.
DEERFIELD cem (has many replacement stones not installed yet photos need taken later on them), Hartzell (finished), Mottown (finished), Working on these using the 1993 PCHS transcriptions, and the township records. Updating, fag database to match or try to find ones they are missing. Note 1954-1958 cem records lost, so will have to try to find and record all tombstones but will be missing burials w/o tombstones or missing records. I did have access to the township records thru 2016.
Quaker Hill Cem, Sebring OH Mahoning Co
2016, used transcriptions, added ones found tombstones for, did not get an update from Caretaker. Call the Friends Church, leave a message to find info on other burials after transcriptions in 1984 Columbiana Co Gen Soc.
CHARLESTON, met the caretaker, he is going to try to update fag and do pics so will try to help him. If anyone wants to help with pics contact me I will put the two of you in touch with each other :)
If you don't see your loved ones memorial, pls call the cemetery, check Family Search Free on line for death/birth records; check for an obit or funeral home to verify where buried, the cemeteries lost many old records, so none of us are positive but maybe old records can be found we haven't found when doing the cemetery.
I will be happy to process any corrections; Please if you suggest a correction send via the Suggest a Correction tab.
TRANSFERS If you would like to manage any of the memorials, just ask me I will transfer them to you. GO TO THE MEMORIAL, EDIT TAB UPPER RIGHT, AND UNDER SUGGESTION ASK FOR TRANSFER (please remember to INCLUDE your F A G ID or I won't be able to transfer); ALSO PLEASE INCLUDE HOW YOU ARE RELATED? i am not a collector of memorials.
I give explicit permission to copy and use any photos I have taken and posted on Find a Grave for your own genealogical purposes. No need to ask.
PICTURES: when we do a whole cemetery we don't have time to stop and clean every stone, so please PUT IN ANOTHER PHOTO REQUEST and hopefully a healthier volunteer will go out with shovel and dig and clean the buried ones up or retake some that will take time to really clean up. I would rather preserve some with pics than wait years and they are faded and can't read them at all.
We are the chosen. In each family, there is one who seems called to find the ancestors. To put flesh on their bones and make them live again. To tell the story and to feel that somehow they know and approve. Doing genealogy is not a cold gathering of facts but, instead, breathing life into all who have gone before. We are the storytellers of the tribe. All tribes have one. We have been called, as it were, by our genes. Those who have gone before cry out to us: "Tell our story". So, we do. ------Anonymous -------
