I am a programmer by trade and have spent a lot of time in cemeteries. In 2000 I started the Williamson County, Texas Digital Cemetery Project and in 7 years my family visited 84 cemeteries near Austin and recorded more than 15,000 burial markers.
Family should be with family. If you're a closer relation than I am I'll transfer. Wouldn't it be great if memorials were automatically transferred to the closest living maintainer?
I'm currently working on linking sources to cousins in FamilySearch. I use FindARecord.com to locate cousins with record hints then attach the sources if appropriate. When the source is Find A Grave I ask maintainers to add the person's FamilySearch Id to the bio section of the page so that genealogists who use FamilySearch can easily find that person's genealogy page.
FamilySearch is a free, cooperative genealogy site where everyone is working on one giant tree, linking sources and correcting information. As of the end of 2016 the tree had more than 1.1 billion people. You can learn a lot more on the FamilySearch blog.
