Bio

I started doing Genealogy back in the early 1990's. I already knew that my paternal grandfather, Felix L. Turner, Sr. (1909-1977) and my maternal grandmother, Margaret Elizabeth Humphries Mitchell (1914-1995) were both from Gaffney, S.C. When I got into genealogy I wound-up with the same 5th great grandparents, John Sarratt and Nancy Morgan, two times!
My parents (who are now unfortunately on Find a Grave), met at Byrnes High, and joked that they were cousins because they both had a parent from Gaffney. I told Mama, "you can quit joking, because you're 5th cousins!"
Unfortunately some of my information comes from hearsay, and I have to try and rely on my memory.
And I know about how, why and when Cherokee County, S.C. came about! But, for example, when putting in for Elijah Turner that he died in "Gaffney, Spartanburg County, South Carolina"; Find a Grave doesn't recognize that, so I have to default to "Gaffney, Cherokee County, South Carolina." Elijah Turner (1772-1859) lived in York, Union and Spartanburg Counties, but moved around Gaffney!
