"Dear Ancestor"
Your tombstone stands among the rest;
neglected and alone.
The name and date are chiseled out
on polished, marbled stone.
It reaches out to all who care;
It is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist;
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you
in flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
one hundred years ago,
spreads out among the ones you left
who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew.
That someday I would find this spot,
and come to visit you.

Thank to Casey FAG#49622750 for posting this lovely poem.
Rencent Work: July 2024 to present...Temple Israel Cemetery, Hastings-on-Hudson, NY. about 4800 burials including 137 Mausoleums. I am in final stage of getting assigned plot numbers. I often do little genealogies.
I was born in The Bronx in 1940 and raised in Mt. Vernon, NY. I have been a genealogist since 1950. I work in electrical contracting field in New York City. My father wired the Verrazano bridge. I walked its support cables during construction. I ended as a Quality Control Manager. I live in Stamford, CT
In June 2020 I started taking photos of head and foot stones, etc. at Jewish cemeteries in Darien. As of August 2020 I have done Darien, Stamford, Shelton, parts of Danbury and others. I try to use Census records, Directories, Naturalizations and Obituaries (posted under "fair use doctrine") to link people. When possible I add the records or the record information to the person. My photos are free to use and may also be found at JOWBR, BillionGraves, ctgen.org.
I welcome any changes or additions to information I've submitted, and will gladly transfer ownership to any member requesting.
Starting August 2020 I am photographing Jewish Cemeteries in Westchester County, New York.
