I am an active genealogist researching mainly in New England, Quebec and Nova Scotia. My ancestors include Joshua Ells, the New England Planter who received a large grant of land in Nova Scotia around 1760. One of his great-great-grandsons, Edward Ells, moved back to New England, and had a farm on Milan Hill near Berlin, Coos County, New Hampshire.
Another ancestor is Nicolas Audet, who was an early "habitant" in New France, arriving around 1655 and eventually settling on the Ile d'Orleans in the Saint Lawrence River, not far from Quebec City. Some of his descendants moved to Vermont, logging and farming in the area of Lincoln, Addison County.
One of my lines, a branch of the Phelps family, starts in New England at a very early date. A member of that family, Amos Phelps, moved to the Eastern Townships of Quebec near Rougemont. His grandson, Oliver Cromwell Phelps, Jr. moved back to the U.S. This branch of the family still has a presence in the area of Bristol, Addison County, Vermont.
I am good with French records, and willing to collaborate in translating French headstones and documents.
