Find A Grave ID

I've been into my family history since a teenager, going through a book of my maternal grandfather's family and trying to chart everything out, then collecting old family photos, and visiting LDS libraries. Today, so much is now available on the Internet. has been very useful along with,, and other sites. I've even taken to DNA testing, both autosomal for genealogy matching, as well as Y-chromosome sequencing. With findagrave data, I've visited about 4 dozen cemeteries in the northeast USA. The provided gravestone photos were useful. Often, the specifics were way too vague or missing, but I was sometimes able to pick out tiny background details in the photos and cross-check them with Google Earth & street view, and Bing Maps birdseye view to triangulate the gravesite. Then, when I visited the cemetery in person, I got the exact GPS coordinates so no one else would have to struggle to find the exact gravestone spot again (you're welcome!).
