It's really gratifying to find there are so many other people like me, who get such satisfaction in trudging around cemeteries in all kinds of weather in order to record the headstones.
When I first started researching, I found my great great grandparents graves at Minmi, NSW, laying flat on the ground in pieces. However, Newcastle library had a photograph of the intact headstone taken in 1911 by a wonderful photographer Ralph Snowball. As I wander cemeteries, I have found so many headstones broken and deteriorated, some by weather, some by vandals. Find A Grave volunteers are doing just what Mr Snowball did, so many years ago - preserving history.
