I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker located in the Lehigh Valley in Eastern Pennsylvania. I am writing a book whose working title is Hangman's Last Drop, the story of how Newark carpenter James Van Hise became the New Jersey State Hangman from 1856-1910. Van Hise hanged eighty-four persons during his career, two of them women. These true stories of victims and perps and how the crimes changed forever the lives of everyone they touched provides the modern reader with a unique perspective into the history of a State known for "Jersey Justice". Once caught, the perp had a speedy trial followed shortly thereafter by public hanging.Regarding the memorials I have created here on findagrave, I will transfer management of a memorial to any direct descendant; I realize that there may be many descendants, but I will transfer to the first person who asks me. I think that's only fair.
