Bio

Arthur Langwill was my great-grandfather. My grandfather, John, was so young when his father died, and the family's residence in the Pacific Northwest had been so short-lived-- they were there only a couple of years, and Arthur's widow and children returned to their previous home, in Kansas, immediately after the death --that John had little recollection of his father and their time in that region. For some reason, John and his brother, Jess, always recalled that their father was buried at Chehalis, Washington... but in an online delve into our family history a few years ago, I discovered them enumerated in the census for Oak Township, Columbia County, Oregon in 1910. On that basis, I contacted the vital statistics department in Oregon in 2015, and, sure enough, Arthur's record was there. They were living at the time of his death in Clatskanie, Oregon, not Chehalis, Washington, and Arthur died at St Vincent's Hospital, in Portland, Oregon, from complications following an acute Bronchitis attack (we had always believed TB).
