The FacompreHistory is a fascinating story filled with intrigue, suffering and triumph. In the 1700's the persecution of the French Huguenots would become horrific. One Facompre would suffer Execution by Guillotine. Many fled France, and in 1791 Jean Joseph Facompre settled in Nienburg, Germany. He had with him a secret biscuit recipe. In 1801 he opened the Bakery today known as the "Biskuithaus". His son would later use the bear paw symbol from the Counts of Hoya to create a new biscuit mold. In this form the "Baerentatze" became famous worldwide. Twice the French occupied Nienburg causing Joseph to alter the spelling of his last name for fear of being discovered. By 1883 the Nienburg Biscuit reached America where it would face new challenges and success.
