I have been interested in genealogy for most of my life. I happened upon this website recently after returning from Kentucky on a genealogy "hunt." What a great resource!!!

I must say that I far prefer the "old" format. The memorials have been made and added by volunteers who care about honoring the subjects and making the memorials personal, attractive and meaningful. The old presentation of the memorials was beautiful. Whenever I look at a re-formatted memorial now, I am sad that they have been altered in such a way as to make them less attractive, more difficult to read and, thus, more difficult to appreciate.

I am so sorry to see the "old format" go away soon. I have continued to use it many times as it is just simply more user friendly in my opinion and it is certainly, without question, more pleasant to view. New and different is not always easier or better.

I take pleasure when I am able to link families on FAG. The numbers mean nothing to me except perhaps the volunteer photos taken. It's more a matter of making the person in the memorial come "alive" by adding details and connecting family. I feel the same about genealogy - a Family Tree, like FAG, is so much more than a collection of names. I am more than honored to add obituaries and/or biographies to my memorials so feel free to send them to me.

The following comes from another F.A.G. contributor who graciously allowed me to use it.

We are the chosen. In each family, there is one who seems called to find the ancestors.
To put flesh on their bones and make them live again, to tell the family story and to feel that somehow they know and approve.
Doing genealogy is not a cold gathering of facts, but instead, breathing life into all who have gone before.
We are the story tellers of the tribe.
