I began my interest in our family tree with a fifth grade science fair project on genealogy. My parents got involved and helped interview other relatives, gather facts and photos, etc. The project included a paper mâché family tree with little green leaves representing my ancestors, each with names and dates printed on them. It won second place in the science fair and we were all really proud of it.
Afterward my folks continued the research by visiting their own birth places in Indiana and Florida, as well as those of our ancestors there and beyond. They researched in libraries and cemeteries, attended family reunions, and so on. Thirty years later I have picked up the project again, only now I have a renewed interest in showing this to my own children, and also in researching my wife's rich family history.
