I was born and raised in the Suburbs just outside of Washington, D. C. in Hyattsville, Maryland. But have since moved to Winston Salem, Forsyth County, North Carolina, USA. My Ancestors are the Pioneers who settled in Dinwiddie County, Virginia. Unsure at this time as to which country they came from but England is in the top of the running.
My Genealogy research started with my Aunt Demsie (Ashby) Wells giving my parents a copy of the Wells Family Tree. It included about 300+ family members. And then this year 2011 we had one of the first Wells Family Reunion's that I can remember, thanks mainly to a tornado striking the Old Wells Homeplace in De Witt, Dinwiddie County, Virginia. Due to the age and condition of the home it was scheduled for demolition and between the efforts of Barbara Mitchell who holds ownership to the house and land it sits on and Mamie (Shutt) Burton who owns the remainder of the Wells Plantation property they organized the reunion prior to demolition. So that family members had a chance to see the home that several generations had grown up in. The property also includes the Wells Cemetery that is said to have a number of family members buried in unmarked graves. I have since be able to add several more members to over 2,600 members and counting, thanks to the help of other family members such as my wife Jennifer (Green) Wells, Carolyn (Lee) Lockhart, Edith and Brenda Zimmerman, Alma Vernelle (Snider) Greene and Katie Wells.
My mother's side of the family are from the Cumberland, Alegany County, Maryland area.
