I became interested in my family history when I was about thirteen probably because I had the unique opportunity to know all of my grandparents and one of my great-grandfathers. Until the death of my paternal grandmother in 2006, I spent many hours talking to her about our family history. I will always cherish those memories.

Over the course of time I found that the branch of my family that has intrigued me the most was that of my paternal grandmother's maiden name, Starnes, even more than my own family name. So I have spent more than forty years tracing the descendants of our ancestor, Joseph Starnes (Starns), who served in the American Revolution.

Today I am still working on the Starnes family, but I also do research on my other grandparents' families--Johnson, May, and Teague--as well as my Bowman ancestors.

How exciting and satisfying it is to find the answer to a question about your ancestors that has eluded you for a long time!
