John Burnett got the genealogy addiction in 1976 during the United States Bicentennial celebration and after watching the TV mini series "Roots" based on Alex Haley's novel. This started a fantastic journey that has crossed generations, the country and involved countless family members and helped make many new friends.
He completed his Ph.D. in History from Florida State University in 2001. His publications are: Families Remembered: The Burnett, Prevatt, Walker, Stonecypher, and Other Allied Lines of Northeast Florida and Georgia. (1989) and The Life and Career of Methodist Bishop Edward J. Pendergrass, 1900- 1995. (2001).
He is a founding and life member of the Baker County Florida Historical Society, member of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), and holds many Florida Pioneer certificates.
