The families I am researching on my paternal side include John or Andrew Smith born in PA; migrated to Lewis Co., KY where his son, John R. Smith (1796 PA – 1848 KY) married Mahala Virgin (1800 KY – 1856 KY) about 1818. Their son, Joseph Madison Smith (1824 KY – 1898 IN) who married 1. Jemima Crull (1818 OH – 1873 IN); 2. Maria Margaret Cunningham (1839 IN – 1923 IN). Maria's parents were Nancy Shaw (1801 KY – 1868 IN) and Edward Cunningham (1804 IN – 1887 IN). Nancy's parents were Samuel Shaw (1773 KY – 1867 Iowa) and Elizabeth Kirkpatrick (1782 – 1854). In June 2014 I did prove DAR lineage for Patriot John Cunningham 1743-1808 of VA m Elizabeth Eleanor (Finks?) 1740-1821. DAR # 934666. This Cunningham goes back to Ireland & Scotland. On my maternal side researching begins with Cunningham and Jones families. The Cunningham is a different line from my paternal Cunningham although both go back to Ireland. This one with Robert Samuel Cunningham 1765-1820 who immigrated into PA then to KY, married Elizabeth McClintock McMullen; son Wm Samuel Cunningham m. Mary "Polly" Beatty; son John Henry "Ned" Cunningham m, 1. Eliz Acton 2. Mary Catherine "Kate" Duzan; son of Ned & Kate, Hollace Cunningham m Vertie Effie Jones; daughter Lailon Cunningham m Marvin Smith (my parents). My grandmother Effie Jones Cunningham parent's are: Thomas Jefferson Jones & Eliza Shirley. This Jones line goes back to Frances Jones Dandridge, the mother of Marsha Dandridge Custis Washington. Somewhere a Jones m a Doane. The Shirley's immigrated from Sussex, Eng about 1638. The Duzan line includes Leininger, Jones, Orrick names all of which came to north American shores prior to the American Revolution. Patriots abound, it is just proving lineage that is the challenge. Any and all help is appreciated.
