My white ancestors have Southern Roots traced to AR from GA, AL, NC, VA with names such as Gorham, Williamson, York, Murphy & McDade. We go back to the 1600s arriving in the colonies from England or Scotland. My northern Loomis line is equally long traced back to Indiana, Ohio, NY and CT also arriving before the American Revolution. I have Boyds in AR who arrived there from TX via Missouri, and Foxes back to England. Some fought for the Confederacy, others for the Union, they were on both sides of the Revolutionary War and some participated in the Indian Wars. Some had slaves, others did not. I'm interested in their history and creating a story to add to these names, dates, or tombstones. I want to provide this to my grandchildren. I also search for their African-American heritage and endeavor to trace their roots and slave history as far back as possible. Before finding FindAGrave, I have traveled around the world and even while at home always had an interest photographing tombstones. Now with great respect I have added memorials or photos to tell the stories of others. I appreciate those who have contributed and thru many links here I've solved puzzles or found missing ancestors. We are fortunate for this great site and the spirit of cooperation in which it encourages us all to share.
