The first entries I have made come from doing family research. (Darm, Schissler, Reihl, Johnson) I have snapped more photos while out there. If I have created a memorial for your loved one, please send me a note and I will transfer it to you.
I love history and in Southern Maine you can't get away from it. We learned in school that the Pilgrims were the first settlers, but remember that the Indians that they met spoke English. Many of the original settlers are buried in small plots that are being taken over by the trees deep in the forest. I love to hike through the wood and find them. Sometimes winter is the best time.
So I encourage any of you gravers to visit Southern Maine and the seacoast of New Hampshire. There are so many cemeteries that are not even close to being documented. The names in these cemeteries are the same as most of the place names, schools, libraries, streets and roads around here. Researching almost any name will turn up interesting family lines.
