My sister, Linda Nelson, and I have been doing genealogy research for over 30 years. We have trekked thru cemeteries and libraries from South Florida to Tennessee.
We found our grandmother,Burma Mize Lock, who had been missing for over 35 years alive and well living in Alaska. We were able to visit her for several years and get to know her before she passed away.
We found our grandfather,William Henry Scarbrough, who had been missing since my father was 17. When my father died at 58 he had no idea what had become of his father. I found that he had died in Pennsylvania in 1973. He has no grave or headstone to claim. He had been cremated and because no one claimed his ashes they were placed in common ground.
I think that was the most disappointing moment in all of my years of research.
That is why I think this site is so great. Linda and I have set a goal to record and contribute each and every grave of every one of our ancestors that we can find. And those who don't have headstones will be given one when we are positive of their placement.
I give permission to anyone to use, for any non-profit purpose, any gravestone photograph I post. Thank you to all contributors who do the same, especially those who give permission on their Profile page!
