Bio

Ron Leonard ~ Carroll County Artist

Born April 12, 1941 in High Point, North Carolina to Edd "Harmon" Leonard, son of Walter C. "Clint" Leonard and Sarah "Cynthia" Jones, and "Lannie" Mozelle Combs, daughter of Jessee Alexander "Alex" Combs and "Evoline" Hawks. His family moved back to the lil' community known as Cana in Carroll County, Virginia 1942…."I'm as country as a ham biscuit he says!"

He operates, Leonard "The Brush" Signs in Cana and also does pen and ink drawings of Carroll County buildings, etc. which he calls the "Carroll County Collection". His interest in preserving the history for future generations with drawings of certain buildings, homes, subjects and people that made the county what it is today is important to him. With no formal training or art school, he gives all credit to …"his God given talent, hard knocks school and Mr. Pete Webster".

Gardening and Genealogy are his two hobbies, if he's not in the garden, you most likely will find him pecking on the computer with his "one finger", researching family records or restoring old photographs of family members. Collecting old pictures and history of the "Hillsville Courthouse Tragedy 1912" is one of his main projects, finding the original grave marker of Floyd and Claud Allen, meeting the only living descendant of Floyd Allen recently are among his many highlights.
