I didn't discover the beauty and comfort a cemetery could give till I had to bury my son. Now, I look at cemeteries with new eyes, admiring the items left by others that adorn a loved one's grave and knowing that there are loved ones attached to each etched piece of cold stone. For some, cemeteries are not a place of solace, but for me, being close to my son's bones, gives me comfort and caring for his grave is one of the ways I can feel like I am doing something for him(probably for me). I found this website by accident when I was googling my son's name, strange yes, but bereaved parents do strange things. I think it is a wonderful service, both from the standpoint of geneology and for the ability to 'visit' a loved one's grave via the computer. Families are flung far and wide and I am sure there is some measure of comfort for many to be able to see their loved ones name and leave a note/flower. So, my husband and I now take time to go on what we call our treasure hunts, of searching local cemeteries for the names of those requesting photos and as we walk we see the stones of other buried children and once again we feel the words of the Compassionate Friends organization, We Need Not Walk Alone.
