Sadly, Betty Venable Phillips has passed away. Please consider visiting their Find a Grave memorial page and leaving some virtual flowers. Their enthusiasm for cemeteries and willingness to help future generations lives on through their contributions to Find a Grave.
I have researched my family lines: Venable, Forman, Crumpton, and Pullen/Pullin and related families with Alabama ties, along with my husband's family lines, Phillips, Cornelius and related families. Also researched the non-related Inzer line from St. Clair Co., Al. I have been doing research for 40 years or more and have enjoyed every minute of walking through cemeteries from South Carolina to Texas. Also, going through old probate records in dusty court house basements and now through the internet. It has been an enjoyable ride. The thrill of finding that missing piece of the puzzle is awesome. Due to health reasons, I no longer do much cemetery walking, but still have the desire, and make short visits when able. Find-A-Grave has been a most enjoyable site for me to visit and I have found numerous missing persons here. To see a picture of a loved ones memorial is the next best thing to being there.
An event close to my heart was the disappearance of the U.S.S. Cyclops, March, 1918, in the Bermuda Triangle. There were 4 Alabama sailors aboard. No trace of the ship has been found to date. A distant cousin, Forman "Austin" Mize was aboard this ship. These 4 sailors are listed in my virtual cemetery "USS Cyclops".
God Bless all who contribute and share their hard work.
