I love to walk cemeteries and take pictures. I have added memorials for many non-relatives in hope that it will help others as others have helped me.
In March of 2009 I committed myself to the project of documenting and photographing Fairview Cemetery in northern Council Bluffs, Iowa. Countless visits up and down its rugged terrain in an array of different weather conditions has produced many interesting and a few beautiful pictures. With the aide of a publication painstakingly compiled in 1994 by the local historical society I have been comparing my findings and adding entries either not located by the society or interred post publishing.
As in any cemetery, some headstones have been tragically lost beneath the turf or have deteriorated beyond recognition. Also, the steep inclines take their toll. It's a shame but the truth is, not everyone could afford to place a stone for their loved ones, stones get tossed aside or ruined by man and/or nature or I just can't find them. I'll try my best to keep the later to a bare minimum.
If you have any information concerning an entry I've posted, please feel free to contact me. It is my quest to make this project as accurate as possible.
I will gladly transfer any memorials to a subject's kin and the photos I've posted may be copied. That, to me, is what Find A Grave is all about.
