Born and reared in Honolulu, Hawaii. Spent twenty-two years active duty in the U.S. Navy. Presently reside in Aurora, Colorado, a Denver suburb.
Started genealogy hobby on 30 April 1987. I know the exact date because that is when a Vermont second cousin visited and told many family history yarns. That planted the seed for genealogy. Since then I have self-published seven genealogy books.
Genealogy led me to the Western History/Genealogy department of the Central Denver Public Library. The work of volunteers made a deep impression and I have donated my services to the library since the late 1980s. Presented with the 1997 Volunteer of the Year Award for the Denver Public Library by the Denver City Council.
For eleven years, starting in 1990, I was active in the leadership of the Computer Interest Group of the Colorado Genealogical Society; serving as librarian and newsletter editor.
Been on the Internet since 1996 when it became affordable. Before that I was involved with FidoNet as were many other electronic genealogists. FidoNet was run by a network of volunteers who relayed messages from computer to computer via the telephone system.
Like any other data on the Internet, I advise caution when finding data on Find-A-Grave, unless there is a photo of the cemetery marker. Even then, markers sometimes are not accurate. My motto, "Confirm and Verify" before accepting for genealogical or family history purposes.
