I was born at Fairview Park Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, October 23, 1951. My parents were Eugene and Eloise Lemmers. I have an older brother and sister.
I grew up in Cleveland Heights, a very nice suburb on Cleveland's east side, and graduated from Heights High School. I later attended and graduated from Kent State University. I have worked at various jobs, including being a ranch hand in Wyoming, but most of my adult life I've worked as a National Park Service interpretive ranger.
Going back to the 1950s, I always had an interest in American Civil War history. Currently I live just outside Gettysburg, PA, with my wife and several of our younger children.
My wife of over 30 years, the former Catherine Morris, I met in Wyoming. Her family has an interesting genealogy that includes pioneers, both Union and Confederate soldiers, and cowboys. My ancestors included a number of Union soldiers from Ohio and Indiana.
My parents are both gone now. My father was an inventor with over 78 U.S. Patents. Wanting to honor our ancestors and record family history has been the driving force in my involvement with this web site.
One of my wife's great-great-great-great grandmothers, Kitturah Stamps Ewalt Bailey, was a sister-in-law of Confederate President Jefferson Davis. One of Cathy's great great great grandfathers was Samuel Henry Ewalt, a Confederate cavalry officer from LaBelle, Missouri. A cousin of my wife, Captain Isaac Davis Stamps of the 21st Mississippi, died at Gettysburg 7/2/1863. My wife is also a descendant of U.S. President John Adam's great grandfather, as well as several passengers of the Mayflower through her Parsons, Thompson, and Curtis family ties.
