Bio
Practiced medicine (general practice) in South Baltimore (solo practice; no HMOs; made house calls) until Sep 1997 (when my husband had a stroke). Retired Sep 1997.
Started charity – HEAD HUGGERS (http://www.headhuggers.org/) Nov/Dec 2001 (making, collecting, and distributing chemo caps to cancer centers and oncologists offices all over the USA. Now have almost 100 satellite Head Huggers groups all over the USA as well as internationally (Australia, Ireland, Puerto Rico, and Canada). Have personally made, collected, labeled, and distributed about 50,000 chemo caps.
Started second charity – MIRACLES HAPPEN – (http://www.miracleshappen.us/) about 2003 making, collecting, and distributing baby items to maternity homes and pregnancy crisis centers all over the USA. Have satellite groups for that charity also…including some outside the USA. Have personally made, collected, labeled and distributed many boxes of baby items all over the USA.
Started and facilitate two weekly knitting/crocheting groups at two local senior centers (Kent Island Senior Center and Grasonville Senior Center) making items for my charities. Have been doing this for about five years.
Have started and facilitated a twice-weekly knitting/crocheting/sewing group at the
Maryland Correctional Institution for Women in Jessup, MD. Have met there every Saturday from 10am-2:30pm and Monday from 6-9pm for the past five years (2003-2008). All of the knitting groups work with yarn and fabric that is donated by individuals, churches, etc. who learn about our work. I collect and label and distribute
all of the items the ladies in the knitting groups make…and distribute them to my charities.
Another Hobby: Have been "doing" genealogy or the past 35-40 years…or so. In the summer of 1999, I started (and continue) publishing a quarterly genealogy newsletter for families with the surname of COSDEN/COSDON.
