I am the great-great granddaughter of Col. Albert J Fountain
and his story has been with me all my life. I think about him
and his young son, Henry, surrounded by his killers and how
angry and fearful (for his helpless son) he must have been in his
last moments. He was a great man, a renaissance man. He was
an intellectual, a poet, a playwright, a pioneer...he loved life and
lived it to the fullest. I am so proud to have his blood in my
veins. When I was younger, and I must admit, I still do it,
whenever I felt down or overcome by the weight of the world,
I would imagine my great, great grandfather and how he would
look at and deal with the situation. I wish so much that I
could have met the great man.
