Genealogy is my greatest passion and I have been enjoying it for about 21 years now (2013).
I used to enthusiastically travel to various places in the U.S.A. exploring where my ancestors once lived. That ended in 2004. That is when a fellow, who had been drinking, rear-ended and totaled my car while I was stopped at a red light. Now, it is too difficult for me to walk those grave yards. So, my research is now done mostly through the computer.
One place I visited in the 1990's was Havana, IL. Where my paternal 2nd great grandparents lived, raised their children, and are buried. Also, it seems, I had numerous cousins who once lived there.
When I first arrived, I parked the car on top of the hill overlooking the main town of Havana, stood there looking all around and quietly said "hello family". I almost expected a shout back of "hello cousin. welcome!" The main street and many of the old houses have been retained to their original appearance. A step back in history.
Recently, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) approved my application to join. This is a proud achievement for me. Following in the footsteps of two ancestors...a cousin and a great-grand aunt. Research done all through genealogy.
