Bio

I am the only son of World War II Capt. Doit L. Fish, USMCR, assigned to Marine Bombing Squadron VMB-611, MAGSZAM, as a PBJ-1 (B-25 Mitchell) pilot, Moret Field, Zamboanga, Mindanao, Philippine Islands.

Dad and his seven crewmembers went MIA May 30, 1945 during an afternoon combat strike on the Kibawe Trail near Davao, Mindanao. Dad's aircraft wreckage and crew skeletal remains were found November 16, 1956 in the area he was reported missing. The eight Marines were given a group burial, with full military honors, at Fort Logan National Cemetery (Section N Plot 38), Denver, CO on July 15, 1957.

VMB-611's Commanding Officer, Lt. Col. George A. Sarles and three of his crewmembers were KIA on the morning of this same combat mission. They are buried at Arlington National Cemetery (Section 34 Site 5018).

I continue my research on my father and VMB-611 to honor their memory of service during World War II.

In Their Memory and In Their Honor, Semper Fi.
