Bio

David Lamar Taylor is the second and last child of David Jackson Taylor and Ellen Blanche Johns. He was born on September 18, 1933 at home in Chowchilla California. The doctor's fee for the house call and delivery was $35. Growing up Lamar would spend a portion of his summers at his maternal grandparents on the Chowchilla River outside Raymond, CA. Lamar remembers days spent panning for gold (never found much) and rabbit hunting. Another summer favorite was a week spent at Bible camp each year in the Sequoia National Forest.
During the war the school children were loaded on buses and taken out to the fields where they picked cotton, potatoes, fruit and other products. As he grew older he helped his father on their dairy and cattle ranch. By the time he was 10 Lamar had enough of hard and dirty work and he looked around town for an occupation to pursue. The cleanest job in town, from the eyes of a ten- year old, was the local pharmacist and he set his sights toward pharmacy school.
After graduating from high school in 1951 Lamar attended Fresno State College. He then served three years in the United States Army where he was known as Private David Taylor. From that point on he was known by his first name, David. David was stationed in California, Georgia and Colorado before he was sent to Gablingen, Germany near Augsburg in the 10th Infantry Headquarters Company. He left the army in 1955 a Korean War Veteran and moved on to finish his education.
He studied in the School of Pharmacy at Oregon State University then transferred to the University of Southern California where he received a Doctor of Pharmacy degree received in 1961.
It was during college that David met Audrey Adrianos at a bowling alley. Three months later he asked her out on their first date. They were married at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Los Angeles on June 4, 1960.
David and Audrey have lived in Costa Mesa since 1961. They have four children: Andrea Lyn, Rhonda Renee, Stephen Lamar, and Jonathan James. David has worked as a pharmacist since his graduation, first at Via Lido Drug and at North Drug in Costa Mesa since 1967. David and Audrey bought the pharmacy in 1971. David received the Orange County Pharmacist Association's Mortar and Pestle Award for Community Service in 1987.
In 1971 he also received a community service award from the local PTA for both his community service as a pharmacist and his work as Chairman of the Board of an orphanage in Baja California. David and Audrey served on the administrative committee for the orphanage from 1968 until 1985. During this time the Taylor's gift for hospitality was felt by the hundreds of people who stayed in their home for a night, a week, a month or a year. David's duties during his 17 year tenure on the board included everything from administration and policy decisions to painting bunks and digging ditches. In addition to her post on the board Audrey was responsible for the monthly news telling supporters about the work going on in Mexico.
For a number of years David also was pharmacist in charge for a mission group called, Handclasp, Inc. Its primary charge was to send medication and medical equipment into medical missions around the world.
The Taylor's were active members of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church for 20 years. There the David and Audrey was involved in teaching the Bethel Bible Series, the Chancel Choir, the hand bell choir, confirmation classes, Sunday school (both students and teachers), and the Mission Board. David was president of the church council twice. from 1981 until 2002. Then David and Audrey have attended Newport Mesa Christian Center in Costa Mesa. There they especially enjoy an active fellowship with their Sunday School discussion class.
In November of 2002 they moved their membership to St. Andrew Presbyterian in Newport Beach. They enjoy good preaching and great music. They have been active on the congregation care committee. Audrey has been very active in the church choirs for many years. St. Andrews choir has been a great blessing for her. David serves on the welcome committee. They both serve as deacons.
