I've been doing genealogy since the mid 1980's when a friends mom introduced me to it. She said the best time to learn about your family is while your family is still alive. I took her advice and I started to ask my grandparents many questions about where we came from and how long we had been in America.

I found out that 3 out of my 4 grandparents were born in other countries; Germany, Canada and England. While the last grandparent had parents who were also born in England. Some surnames in my family are Tansley, Maintzer, Shore, Silverman, Hiller, Bates, Church.

After I got married I started to work on his family history and found out that most of his line came to America about 200 years after the Mayflower landed and that he descends from Anne Bradstreet. Some surnames in his family are Norton, Wells, Downs, Kellogg, Hiscock, Hagel, Haskin, Throop. O'Brien, Larch.
