My maiden name is Young & I love studying my family history when I have time. I think being a Grandmother of 4 has inspired me to research my family roots. I have always appreciated cemeteries though - I enjoy looking a the artwork and design of headstones, always on the lookout for those that are unique and different (that's my creative side). Doing genealogy is also my way of honoring my ancestors, many of which sacrificed greatly so that I can live so well. And as for Cemeteries, they remind us all of the finality of this earthly existence - if there were no cemeteries, many people's lives would just be totally forgotten. Cemeteries help us to re-connect to our ancestors, but even greater, cemeteries remind us of our eventual crossroads - leaving this Earthly existence & a meeting scheduled with God - as much, if not moreso than a Church, Temple or Synagogue. I don't see Cemeteries as sad places, but more like Holy places.
