My brother and I started working on learning something about our ancestors about 1998-1999, not too long after I moved back to NC and became more familiar with computers. He put our Wellborn and Kilby family trees on, so I never felt it was necessary for me to do so. Our parents: Thomas L., Sr. & Marie Kilby Wellborn.
Our roots are in Wilkes County NC. Our paternal and maternal grandparents had farms there when we were born and they both went back at least two generations (maternal, three or four). My great grandfather Wellborn settled in the Boomer area of Wilkes County and my great grandfather's and subsequently grandfather's farm was on Old Highway 60 (on the Yadkin River).
I think the Kilbys were in Millers Creek on Highway 16 as long as there has been a Highway 16. After my grandmother passed away in 1976, that was the end. Now, as I understand it, the house belongs to a cousin and stands empty and dilapidated. It is really sad to me.
