Crockett, David 'Davy' [cenotaph] b. August 17, 1786 d. March 6, 1836 Folk Figure, Frontiersman, Soldier, US Congressman, and Defender of the Alamo. Commonly referred to as the "King of the Wild Frontier," his exploits as an American folk hero were popularized in films, stage plays, and books, some of which were often exaggerated.
