ALICE BERNICE ADAMS
Alice Bernice Baker Adams died Dec. 17, 2005, at the Chariton Nursing and Rehab Center in Chariton. She was 87. She was born March 19, 1918, to Amos Daniel and Hulda Ivy Baker in Wayne County.
She attended all 12 grades and graduated from LeRoy Consolidated School. As a child she attended the LeRoy Methodist Church. After graduation she worked in the LeRoy grocery store until she married Dale L. Adams on March 5, 1938. They lived and farmed in the Popcorn area for the first year, then moved to and farmed northwest of LeRoy. They joined the Smyrna Friends Church and she remained a member until her death. The couple were the parents of two children, Neil and Alice.
Mrs. Adams served as secretary to the LeRoy School Board for several years. She and Dale worked the farm and raised their children. Upon moving to Humeston in 1963, she worked for several years as the office person at the Humeston Veterinary Clinic and as a cashier for the Richard Oil Service Station.
She was a longtime member of the Home Service Club, Yorel Study Club and the Humeston 2-4 Club. She enjoyed the clubs' activities and messed them and her many friends greatly when her health condition made attendance and participation impractical. She loved and took pride in her family. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Dale in 1995; sister Ivy and Robert Tolley; brothers, Dale and Muriel Baker and Gerald and Mary Baker.
She is survived by her children, Neil and Charlene Adams of Humeston and Alice and Gary Anderson of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Laura and David Wells, Shannon and Ronald Lowe, Erin and David Steele, Sarah and Josh Moore, Jason Adams and Christopher Anderson; six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Adams will be held at 10:30 a.m. (today) Dec. 22 at the Humeston Christian United Methodist Church in Humeston, the Rev. Lynn Zimmerman and Pastor Erwin Cook officiating. Burial is in the Humeston Cemetery. Arrangements were made through the Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home of Leon and Lamoni.
