Wife of Alexander Franklin Hughes whom she married in 1842, Kenton County, Kentucky.

Obituary from the Licking Valley Register, Covington, Kentucky: 5 November 1847

Died October 31st at the residence of her father, Gen. L. Stephens in Kenton county, Kentucky, Mrs. Lucy Waller Hughes in the 25th year of her age.

The deceased presented one of those bright examples of christian fortitude and resignation which speaks a language more impressive to the skeptic than tones of human wisdom, or the precepts of human philosophy.

For months did this truly pious woman suffer the agony of relentless disease until, to use her own expression, she was literally a mass of pain, without a word of murmuring at her fate, her constant solace being, "Oh! Lord Thy will be done. I know I am in the hand of Him who will do right; my confidence in the Savior increases as my life wears away." Although the hearts of her friends may be wrung with anguish, they can more cheerfully bear their loss when they look back at the bodily suffering from which she was taken, and contemplate the bright future to which she has gone.

"The Lord chasteneth whom he loveth", is the word of Scripture, and well has it been fulfilled in her case. So well satisfied was she of this that as her end approached her hopes grew brighter and brighter. Mrs. Hughes has been a member of the Christian Reformed Church for several years previous to her death, and expressed an ardent attachment to its principles to the last.

She left a find husband, and one interesting little daughter to mourn their loss, and mingle in their sorrows with a numerous family connexion and a large circle of friends, who all keenly feel the bereavement under which they labor.
