Ray Gilland, 87, passed away on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at Cornerstone Hospital in Sulphur, La.

Mr. Gilland was born February 6, 1925 to L.W. "Will" and Bertie VanWinkle Gilland in Peckerwood, La. and lived in DeQuincy. Mr. Gilland was a Charter member of Hargrove Baptist Church and later a member of Houston River Baptist Church. He served in the United States Army, fighting in the Italian Campaign, during World War II. He particularly enjoyed his years of employment from which he retired - with DeQuincy Elementary School in the maintenance department. After retirement, nothing pleased him more than to "hit the road" and see the country with his wife and grand-daughter. He also loved gardening and his little dog "Rusty".

Survivors include his wife of DeQuincy; two daughters and one son-in-law; one brother of DeQuincy, La.; one sister of Moss Bluff, La.; a Grand-daughter, five other grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Bertie Gilland and a daughter, Rita Langley.

Funeral Services were Thursday, November 1, 2012 at the Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Jerry Gilland and Rev. Kyle Van Winkle officiated. Burial followed in Hyatt Cemetery.

Services were under the direction of Hixson Snider Funeral Home.
