Robert "Bob" Adkins graduated from Fike High School in Wilson and attended Atlantic Christian College. He served on active duty with the North Carolina National Guard. Bob's business career included positions with WVOT Radio Station, Southland Advertising, and Hardee's Food Systems. He joined Lewis Advertising in 1973 where he worked as head of the ad agency's media and production departments. At the time of his retirement in 1999, Bob was a senior vice president of the firm.
Bob was a past member of the Rocky Mount Rotary Club and he was a member of West Haven Presbyterian Church, where he participated in many activities.
He was the husband of Nancy Thaxton.
