Farl was the first paid firefighter in the Placerville Fire Department's history with a fire service career spanning 23 years and culminating with his appointment as the Fire Chief of Placerville in 1962. He also loved to hunt and fish. Farl passed away at age 83 and was survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen; sons William, Farl Jr., Bruce, and Dean Grundy; brother Wade; as well as 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
