Character Actor. His career spanned six decades, starting in Vaudeville. He first came to Hollywood in 1926, even appearing uncredited in the pioneering Warner Bros. talkie film, "The Jazz Singer" (1927). He is best remembered for playing the part of 'Uncle Charley' in the family television sitcom "My Three Sons" from 1965 to 1972, replacing William Frawley. He also starred as the police chief in the Stanley Kramer ensemble comedy picture "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World" (1963) and was a frequent supporting actor in numerous Preston Sturges screwball comedies.
