Ronald L. Maxwell
Former Durango resident Ronald L. Maxwell died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, in Mancos. He was 73.
Mr. Maxwell was born to William and Anna Lee Dvorak on July 13, 1939, in Pagosa Springs. He grew up in Durango and graduated from Durango High School in 1957.
On Dec. 29, 1957, he married Billie Jean Malone in Durango. The couple had a son together before the marriage ended in divorce.
After graduation, Mr. Maxwell entered the Army at Fort Bragg, N.C., and he served as a paratrooper and Green Beret for three years.
After his military service, he moved to Grants, N.M., and worked in the uranium mines until 1972.
In the late 1970s, Mr. Maxwell moved back to the Durango area. He operated Ron's Electric from the 1970s through the 1990s.
In the late 1980s, he married Phyllis Doolittle in Durango.
After he retired, Mr. Maxwell spent his time scroll sawing, gardening and canning, especially green beans. He watched the Denver Broncos and enjoyed hunting and fishing in New Mexico.
Mr. Maxwell was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Maxwell, in 2001.
He is survived by his son, Ronnie Maxwell of Durango; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family members.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at Greenmount Cemetery in Durango.
