The announcement of the death of Mrs. Laura S. Grant has cast a shadow on many hearts. The said event occurred at her late residence on Madison street, this city, last evening at half past 5 o'clock, and was caused by pneumonia. Mrs. Grant was the widow of the late Col. W. L. Grant, to whom she was married in 1845. She was the daughter of Hon. W. W. Southgate, of Newport, who forty years ago represented this district in Congress. At the time of her death, she was in the fifty-seventh year of her age. Five grown sons survive. In life Mrs. Grant illustrated all womanly graces, and in her death the Christian's hope and faith. Her funeral will take place Sunday afternoon, from her late residence.
