JENKINS -- Robert Wayne, 30, died tragically on Wednesday, December 12, 2001. Robert was born September 11, 1971 in Tulsa. He had been a Letter Carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 9 years. He graduated from Glenpool High School in 1989 and received an Associate's degree in Accounting from Tulsa Community College. He was dearly loved by all who knew him. He married Amber Lynn Danforth on July 21, 2001, who survives him. He is also survived by: his daughter, Caitlyn Danforth (20 months old); mother and step-father, Jeanne and Rolland R. Been of Tulsa; father, Jerry Lee Jenkins of Cleveland, OK; brother, John Jenkins and his wife, Sherry of Tulsa; nephew, Cody Jenkins of Tulsa; grandparents, Mary and John Ross of Oologah, OK, Lou Orlando of Inglewood, CA, Mrs. Clara Jenkins of Sand Springs, Verda and Rolland E. Been of Tulsa; also many aunts, uncles and cousins. Preceded in death by grandmother, Mrs. Vivian Ross and grandfather, Edward V. (Bud) Jenkins. Visitation will 9 a.m.-9 p.m., Sunday at Ninde Woodland Funeral Home, 5757 S. Memorial. Funeral service Monday, December 17 at 10 a.m. at Parkview Baptist Church, 5805 S. Sheridan. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Robert Jenkins Family Fund in care of Tulsa Postal Federal Credit Union, 1419 S. Denver, Tulsa, OK 74119. Ninde Funeral Directors, Woodland Chapel, 250-5556.

Congressman John Sullivan Honors Slain Postal Worker with Passage of Bill


Washington, Oct 1 -

Congressman John Sullivan today voted to designate a United States Postal Service facility in Tulsa as the "Robert Wayne Jenkins Station." The Act, sponsored by Congressman Sullivan, honors Jenkins who was tragically killed while on his postal route.

"Robert Wayne Jenkins was a wonderful father and husband, dedicated postal employee, and terrific American," said Congressman Sullivan. "His commitment to his family, friends and job served as an example for all who knew him."

Jenkins, a nine-year veteran U.S. Postal Service letter carrier, was killed by a gunman while on his route in South Tulsa on December 12, 2001. He was widely known and respected by his colleagues for his dedication and professionalism. He was also admired for his love and devotion to his wife, Amber, and daughter, Caitlyn.

"I am pleased to sponsor this bill that honors the legacy of this great man," Sullivan said.

Oklahoma's entire Congressional Delegation joined Sullivan as co-sponsors of the Robert Wayne Jenkins Station Designation Act.

To redesignate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 6910 South Yorktown Avenue in Tulsa, Oklahoma, as the `Robert Wayne Jenkins Station'.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. DESIGNATION OF ROBERT WAYNE JENKINS STATION.

(a) DESIGNATION- The facility of the United States Postal Service located at 6910 South Yorktown Avenue in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and known as the `Southside Station', shall be known and designated as the `Robert Wayne Jenkins Station'.

(b) REFERENCES- Any reference in a law, map, regulation, document, paper, or other record of the United States to the facility referred to in subsection (a) shall be deemed to be a reference to the Robert Wayne Jenkins Station.
