Mrs. Virginia Ann Powell Thomas passed away on Thursday, October 25, 2012 at Annie Penn Hospital.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, November 2, 2012 at Grooms Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. There will be a visitation 1:30-2:00 P.M. prior to the service.
Virginia entered into this life on August 12, 1923, a woman wise beyond her years. She is a member of Grooms Missionary Chapel Baptist Church in Reidsville, NC.
Virginia Thomas attended Elementary, Middle and High school in Reidsville, NC. She was a housewife for several years before being employed as a seasonal employee at the American Tobacco Company, full-time employment at Burlington Industries and Reidsville City School System, specifically at Moss Street Elementary School where she retired.
Ministry services: Virginia severed in many ministries; she was one of the Mothers of the Church, held a leadership position in the Missionary Department, Sr. choir member, Deaconess, Church Secretary and Pastors Aid Member.
She had the gift/talent of cooking and singing and she continuously cared for others. Her hobbies included (in her spare time) reading and tending to her flowers indoors and outdoors.
She was married to the late Irshell Thomas from 1942-2005, 63 years.
Surviving Children: Ruth Y. Anderson, Irshell W. Thomas, Peter H. Thomas (Linda), Lee E. Thomas (deceased), Alferd C. Thomas, Veronica D. Thomas (deceased), Katie T. Smith, Danny W. Thomas, Joyce Renee T. Galloway and a host of nephews and nieces, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Left to mourn are her sisters: Mary Wallace Jones, Dorothy Siddle and Aileen Moore other relatives and friends.
