He was born Victor Murray Hatfield on 24 Feb 1859 in Murray, Wells, Indiana. He was the son of Hiram Hatfield and Catharine Kincaid Donaldson.

On 17 Jun 1880 he married Estella E. "Stella" King in Wells County, Indiana. To this marriage were the births of three daughters Adelaide, Anna Claire, and Vere Stella.

Victor married a second time to Susie Elva Craven on 4 Jun 1901 in Blackford County, Indiana. To this marriage were the birth of a daughter Amy Catharine and a son George Irving Hatfield.

Victor was an author of a book of poems 'The old home town and other poems" and a composer of church hymnals. His second wife Susie wrote the music for some of Victor's hymnals. A list of his hymnals can be found at http://www.hymnary.org/person/Hatfield_VM.
