Services Set For Howard Ahlskog
Services for Howard E. Ahlskog, a long-time forest supervisor who died Saturday at home, will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Alden-Waggoner Chapel by the Rev. Samuel, B. Adams of the First United Presbyterian Church. He was 69.
Ahlskog was supervisor of the Boise National Forest from March, 1958 until he retired in May 1971.
He was chairman of several advisory committees on public lands. He belonged to the Boise Lions Club for 13 years. The Boise Federal Business Association named him Civil Servant of the Year in 1967.
Ahlskog graduated from the University of Idaho with a degree in forestry in 1938.
After working for the Northeast Timber Salvage Administration, he was transferred to the Kootenai National Forest in Montana where he was forest supervisor for 7 years.
His first wife, Lillian Dahlquist, died in 1959, and he later married Mildred T. Mutch, who survives him. Three brothers, Ralph, Harold and Edwin, preceded him in death.
He belonged to the American Forestry Association, the Forest History Association, the Society of American Foresters and the Vandal Boosters.
He was an Idaho Statesman Distinguished Citizen in 1970.
He is survived by his wife, a son, Howard E. Ahiskog of Greenfield, Mass.; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Patricia Krebs of San Jose, Calif.; three sisters, Marion Robinson of San Mateo, Calif; Miss Amelia Ahiskog and Mrs. Evelyn Buck, both of Seattle, Wash.; 2 grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
