Marcelle H. Newman - April 19, 1922 - April 7, 2006
Marcelle H. Newman , 84, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 7:25 PM Friday, April 7, 2006, in the home of her daughter. She was born February, 19, 1922, in South Bend, IN, to the late Edgar C. and Minnie B. (Wolter) Martindale Sr. On July 16, 1948, in South Bend, she married William C. Newman Jr. He preceded her in death on February 10, 1992. Mrs Newman is survived by two daughters, Pam (Ralph) Acito of South Bend and Karen (Greg) Probst of Indianapolis. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Tony (Rosemary) Acito of South Bend, Kimberly (Reg) Acito-Tanig of Houston, TX, Matthaw and Kristen Probst, both of Indianapolis; and three great-grandchildren, Sydney Acito, August Acito and Kaylee Tanig.
Mrs Newman was a lifelong area resident. She graduated from James Whitcomb Riley High School in January 1940. During World Warr II she was an air raid warden, going around neighborhoods checking compliance. Mrs Newman worked as an administrative assistant and bookkeeper in a variety of businesses in the South Bend area. She retired in 1983. After her retirement, she volunteered at the Leighton Center. Mrs Newman was an active meber of Faith United Methodist Church.
