After earning her degree, she went to New Orleans, where she attended a suffrage meeting, and had her picture taken with Susan B. Anthony, before entering practice with her father and brother. She resigned her practice when she married Walter Beals July 14 1904, but served as a Seattle Justic of the peace during WW I, filling the office left vacant when her brother Major John E Carrol went into the army. She was active in community projects, helping to found the Seattle Milk Fund, and serving on the board of the Girl Scouts.
